One time I was out shopping with my mom and I started playing with a display thing, and she was like “What are you doing?” and I sarcastically was like “Worshiping Satan, obviously” and she was like “Seems a bit conceited to worship yourself, but whatever makes you happy”
i swear to god I’m such a low maintenance friend like you could have not spoken to me for months and ill still be like yEAH FRIEND HI

Okay, okay, I’m going to tell you what Hermione sees in Ron.
A trio is a balancing act, right? They’re equalizers of each other. Harry’s like the action, Hermione’s the brains, Ron’s the heart. Hermione has been assassinated in these movies, and I mean that genuinely—by giving her every single positive character trait that Ron has, they have assassinated her character in the movies. She’s been harmed by being made to be less human, because everything good Ron has, she’s been given.
So, for instance: “If you want to kill Harry, you’re going to have to kill me too”—RON, leg is broken, he’s in pain, gets up and stands in front of Harry and says this. Who gets that line in the movie? Hermione.
“Fear of a name increases the fear of the thing itself.” Hermione doesn’t say Voldemort’s name until well into the books—that’s Dumbledore’s line. When does Hermione say it in the movies? Beginning of Movie 2.
When the Devil’s Snare is curling itself around everybody, Hermione panics, and Ron is the one who keeps his head and says “Are you a witch or not?” In the movie, everybody else panics and Hermione keeps her head and does the biggest, brightest flare of sunlight spell there ever was.
So, Hermione—all her flaws were shaved away in the films. And that sounds like you’re making a kick-ass, amazing character, and what you’re doing is dehumanizing her. And it pisses me off. It really does.
In the books, they balance each other out, because where Hermione gets frazzled and maybe her rationality overtakes some of her instinct, Ron has that to back it up; Ron has a kind of emotional grounding that can keep Hermione’s hyper-rationalness in check. Sometimes Hermione’s super-logical nature grates Harry and bothers him, and isn’t the thing he needs even if it’s the right thing, like when she says “You have a saving people thing.” That is the thing that Harry needed to hear, she’s a hundred percent right, but the way she does it is wrong. That’s the classic “she’s super logical, she’s super brilliant, but she doesn’t know how to handle people emotionally,” at least Harry.
So in the books they are this balanced group, and in the movies, in the movies—hell, not even Harry is good enough for Hermione in the movies. No one’s good enough for Hermione in the movies—God isn’t good enough for Hermione in the movies! Hermione is everybody’s everything in the movies.
Harry’s idea to jump on the dragon in the books, who gets it in the movies? Hermione, who hates to fly. Hermione, who overcomes her withering fear of flying to take over Harry’s big idea to get out of the—like, why does Hermione get all these moments?
[John: Because we need to market the movie to girls.]
I think girls like the books, period. And like the Hermione in the books, and like the Hermione in the books just fine before Hollywood made her idealized and perfect. And if they would have trusted that, they would have been just fine.
Would the movies have been bad if she was as awesome as she was in the books, and as human as she was in the books? Would the movies get worse?
She IS a strong girl character. This is the thing that pisses me off. They are equating “strong” with superhuman. To me, the Hermione in the book is twelve times stronger than the completely unreachable ideal of Hermione in the movies. Give me the Hermione in the book who’s human and has flaws any single day of the week.
Here’s a classic example: When Snape in the first book yells at Hermione for being an insufferable know-it-all, do you want to know what Ron says in the book? “Well, you’re asking the questions, and she has to answer. Why ask if you don’t want to be told?” What does he say in the movie? “He’s got a point, you know.” Ron? Would never do that. Would NEVER do that, even before he liked Hermione. Ron would never do that.❞
Let me tell you a fucking thing about costume design. That’s some in depth, difficult shit to learn. And the fact that this goddess can ramble this shit off the cuff means she knows her shit. ELLE WOODS IS A GODAMNED GENIUS AND IT’s NOT A STRETCH TO BELIEVE SHE GOT INTO HARVARD LAW MMMK?
FUCK YEAH ELLE WOODS OR DIE
this movie is literally about an attractive woman who loves to party having to prove over and over again that she’s also intelligent and hard-working to those who judge her based on her looks (who also empowers and fights for other women, and fosters unlikely friendships instead of engaging in girl hate) and if you don’t think that’s some great feminist shit then I don’t know what your problem is
Let’s not forget that in the end when the guy wants her again, she turns him down because she knows she deserves better.
AND let’s not forget that at the end she is the class-elected speaker at the graduation ceremony, has graduated with high honors, has been invited into one of Boston’s best law firms, and is best friends with the girl who her boyfriend left her for.
I don’t think there will ever come a time when I don’t reblog this
You know, it really scares me when we get these stories about nt parents killing or trying to kill their autistic sons and daughters and other “autism parents” jump in saying things like “don’t judge unless you’ve tried to raise an autistic child; I have an autistic son and you don’t know how hard it is” because like… Shouldn’t it be the opposite reaction??
If you have someone you love who’s autistic shouldn’t you be DISGUSTED by this kind of thing, moreso than other NTs? If you have an autistic daughter and you hear about another autistic girl being murdered, don’t you get scared for your own kid?? Don’t you feel extra hard-hit by the reminder that this world is full of people who think your kid/sibling/niece/student doesn’t deserve to live, when you KNOW that’s not true because you KNOW that autistic person and you know all the good in them and you know you couldn’t bear losing them… And doesn’t it shake you to know that other people don’t know that, that they think this person and others like them are better off dead?
Because if you truly love that autistic person in your care, that’s where your thoughts should be. Your empathy should lie with the helpless innocent kid, who was attacked by the person they trusted - the person who was supposed to protect them.
But instead of thinking of that kid, you think of yourself, you think of how hard YOU have it, and you save all your compassion for the MURDERER.
Anyone with that kind of mentality shouldn’t even have kids and yet these people are the ones raising autistic/special needs kids…. And that’s terrifying to me.
Alright tumblr fam! We’re almost there!
I have 8 days left to raise $2,348 for top surgery. I can’t do this without your help and I really appreciate anything you can give! I’ve also created tons of fun perks (like handmade stationary sets! and zines!) which you can claim on my donation page right here:
For those of you who don’t know me yet, here’s a little more information!
Hey lovelies! I’m Myles and I’m a fem transsexual man hoping to have top surgery in March. Because of the unexpectedly early surgery date, I’m now rushing to fundraise and could really use your help. This procedure is both life-saving and life-changing for me, so please donate if you can! Every little bit helps and I am so deeply grateful for anything you can give.
Being “visibly trans” has made it very difficult to get and maintain jobs. I’ve been let go from two jobs already for being trans, and I currently work two jobs just to cover my rent. I’ve tried hard to save money for surgery and I managed to scrape together the $500 deposit the surgeon requires. But the $8,320 price tag for this surgery is way out of my range.
I’ve struggled with dysphoria for a long time, finding myself in psychiatric programs because of the depression and anxiety it’s caused me, and I’ve been blessed to find so much relief since starting hormones. Recognizing myself in the mirror for the first time is an incredible experience.
But I am still struggling everyday with having large breasts. I bound my chest for years, causing myself severe back pain. Now I walk around in the world with my unbound chest and receive stares, harassment, and threats of violence nearly everywhere I go. This surgery will help me to feel safe in public and at home in my own body.
I know it’s super cheesy but I feel like I’ve been in a little cocoon all through my transition. For me this surgery is going to help me burst out of my cocoon and finally see my wonderful butterfly self reflected in the mirror! Please help me make this a reality by donating and by sharing this campaign far and wide!
Thx for reading, you are all angels <3 <3 <3
P.s. here’s a cute little vid where I talk about the fundraiser and then sing and show you bby pics of me :3
You know, what I find interesting, is there is at least two works in the past fifteen years or so about kids killing each other, mostly isolated from any adult supervision.
What’s the classic example of that? Lord of the Flies.
When I studied that in grade eight, it was held up as this example of society, a look at what we would be like without authority. (Written by an old white British dude raise your hand if you’re surprised.)
So, lets look at Battle Royale and Hunger Games as the modern-day version of that.
What’s the key distance that time has made with these microcosms of children murdering children?
These days, it’s not being shown that we default to savage murder without authority. These works show authority forcing us into it.
I think that’s fucking fascinating.
And much more accurate.
WHAT IS HAPPENING
The guy in the sleeping bag wiggling around
The two people in the front wearing one shirt.
Are we really not going to talk about the guy in the back who is attached to another guy’s back while spinning?
I DIDN’T EVEN SEE THAT ONE.
WHAT ABOUT THE GUY THAT FALLS OUT OF THE WINDOW
WHY IS IT BACK
no you guys don’t understand, not only is this the first harlem shake out there… these guys aren’t normal military. This is “Telemarkbataljonen”. They’re pretty much the Norwegian equivalent of the fucking black ops. My brother knows a guy in this battalion, and when asked what they do there, he looked my brother dead in the eye and said “That is strictly confidential”. These guys are hard as shit, which makes this even more hilarious
